Why Join SBC?

Social Impact Focus

As Cornell's premiere social impact consulting organization, SBC members work on projects in areas of social impact such as sustainability, diversity equity and inclusion, and education, to create tangible impact in areas they are passionate about.

Professional Development

SBC's New Member Education Process and Sophomore Series customize professional development to each member's needs. Members gain expertise in public speaking, PowerPoint, and networking to prepare you to work with SBC's clients and in the industry.

Mentorship

SBC's internal apprenticeship program and vast alumni network ensure that members have access to experienced advisors and advocates across industries. Mentor-mentee relationships make SBC a tight-knit group where you can cultivate long-lasting relationships.

Large-Scale Projects

At the cutting edge of innovation, SBC works with Fortune 500 companies, NGOs, state and national governments, and startups worldwide. We use the "MBB approach" to consulting: SBC members work collaboratively to find innovative solutions to client problems.

At SBC, we place a strong emphasis on gathering diverse perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, so there is no "one type" of person we look for. That being said, we look for freshmen and sophomores that share the following characteristics

Collaborative Leadership

Passion for Innovation

Dedication to Impact

Recruitment Process Overview

Pre-Recruitment Events

Coffee Chats:  This is a one-on-one casual chat with an SBC member. A coffee chat will give you the opportunity to get to know SBC, and for us to get to know you. Sign-up for a coffee chat here.

Information Sessions:  This involves an overview of SBC, followed by a brief networking session. We strongly encourage potential applicants to attend at least one information session.

Professional Development Workshop:  These are casual events designed to help students understand consulting as an industry, and opportunities in it, and provide relevant professional development resources.

Case Interview Workshop:  These are informational events to help students learn about the case interview from experienced SBC members, and prepare for consulting interviews.

Application and Interview Rounds

Application Deadline:  SBC's application consists of a resume drop and a few questions to understand you and your interest in SBC. Our Spring 2025 application is due on February 6 at 11:59 PM

First Round Interview:  SBC's first round interview includes a behavioral interview and logical reasoning questions. It is designed to understand your background and way of thinking. This is invite-only and time slots will be assigned a day before the interview.

Final Round Interview:  The final round interview consists of a case to evaluate your problem-solving capacity, ability to collaborate, and communication skills.
